String Orchestra Works for Trinity School, NYC

The Trinity School, a coeducational independent school on New York’s Upper West Side, invites submissions for pieces of an appropriate level for high-school-aged string students. This first iteration of the project is open to composers of all ages, residing in the United States. The ensemble consists of highly talented students, many who take private lessons. The music director of the orchestras is Dr. Reuben Blundell, a conductor with a great deal of experience and interest in new music and premieres.

Selected pieces will be played by the 7-8 orchestra (approximate ages 12-13), or the high school ensembles, with a length of approximately 3-8 (no more than 10 minutes). Some principal solos are fine, but divisis within sections are discouraged. Some extended technique is ok but we can use acoustic (not amplified) sound production only.

We would also like the opportunity to work with you via Skype or another video conferencing service, and we would document this and potentially use it online in promoting your music and our programs.

For composers whose piece is selected, we will pay a fee of $300 USD, with the understanding that we may perform it during this year and possibly next. For pieces selected, you would need to fill out necessary paperwork prior to any payment by Trinity School.

There is no entry fee. We’ll begin considering works in late August 2018, but 2-3 works will be programmed during the school year (September-June).

Please submit a PDF copy of the score and parts or a representative part, and a recording, or link to a recording (MIDI or live) via this Dropbox link:

Thank you!
