University of Vermont Festival of New Music

The University of Vermont Festival of New Music (UVM-FNM) seeks instrumental chamber works from composers of any age or nationality for performance consideration on the 2019 festival, to be held April 6-7. One prizewinning composer will receive travel costs up to $400 and lodging for the festival, with the winning work performed on April 7, 2019 at the University of Vermont. Complete rules and information
1. The competition is open to composers of all ages and nationalities, except that composers with a UVM affiliation are not eligible.
2. There is no fee.
3. Composers may submit up to two separate pieces, with a separate submission form for each piece.
4. The winning piece will be performed on Sunday, April 7 at the University of Vermont, and a concert recording made.
5. The winning composer is required to attend the concert and is encouraged to attend the full 2-day festival (April 6-7). UVM-FNM will reimburse travel costs up to $400 and will provide lodging.
6. Works must be between 3-15 minutes duration.
7. Works may be written for any 1-5 performers playing standard orchestral instruments, with or without electronics. This includes piano, standard orchestral percussion, and drum kit. This call does not include voice. The composer is responsible for any live electronic processing.
8. Fully electronic pieces, with no live acoustic component, will not be considered.

10. Scores must be in PDF format and can include the composer’s name. Recordings must be in mp3 format. Submissions that do not conform to all stated criteria will not be considered.
11. The deadline for submission of all materials is December 9, 2018 at noon.
12. The selection panel will consist of three composers drawn from the University of Vermont faculty. Decisions of the jury are final.
13. All entrants will be notified of the results via email, and the results posted online, no later than January 31.
