Charlotte New Music String Quartet Competition

Charlotte New Music (CNM) and Beo String Quartet are happy to announce our fourth annual composition contest. This is a call for scores by emerging and mid-career American composers aged 35 years and older who also live in the U.S.

Award for the winning composer —
Beo String Quartet will perform the selected work at the international Charlotte New Music Festival (June 17-29, 2019).
$250 travel stipend and dorm accommodations for 4 nights at the 2019 CNMF in Charlotte, NC.
Be a special guest composer at the 2019 CNMF. (Give a presentation on your music, attend rehearsals of your music with Beo String Quartet, attend other concerts and network with other guests and participants.)
Beo String Quartet will also perform the piece during their regular 2019-20 concert season.
Top 10 pieces will receive honorable mention.
Submissions — due December 17, 2018 by 11:55pm ET

1) Duration,
2) Your bio,
3) Your birth date,
4) Your mailing address,
5) Attach PDF’s of one score AND all four parts (string quartet – 2 violins, viola, cello).
Maximum duration is 10 minutes.
Recordings are optional but highly encouraged.

Eligibility — composer applicants must:

Currently reside in the continental United States.
Be born before January 1, 1984.
The work may have been previously performed.
Be willing to give a presentation on their music and attend the performance late June 2019 at the 8th annual Charlotte New Music Festival.
CNMF current/former staff and guest composers are ineligible for this opportunity. CNMF alumni are eligible.
Winners to be announced on Monday, January 14, 2019.
