2019 Valencia International Performance Academy and Festival (VIPA) – Applications now open!

Applications for the 2019 Valencia International Performance Academy and Festival (VIPA Festival) are now open!

Application deadline is January 15, 2019 with no application fee. Late applications will be accepted until February 15, 2019 with an application fee of €15. Composition candidates for the VIPA Composition Program must either be enrolled at a college-level degree granting institution or higher, or hold one such degree to be eligible for participation at VIPA 2019, although some exceptions could be accepted.

In its 9th year, the VIPA Festival continues to bring together composers and performers from all over the world for 10 days filled with exciting new compositions and fulfilling educational experiences for our participants. The VIPA Composition Program will take place at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música "Joaquín Rodrigo", and all concerts will take place at the breath-taking Sala Mutant at the Las Naves artistic complex, located at the Valencia International Port – one of the most important of the Mediterranean region.

Faculty for our 2019 festival will include composers Efstratios (Stratis) Minakakis from the New England Conservatory, Stefano Gervasoni (Paris Conservatoire), professor of computer music Gregorio Jiménez (Conservatorio Superior de Música "Joaquín Rodrigo"), and program director Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann (Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY).

Resident ensembles will be, once more, the Mivos Quartet (NYC, New York) and the B3:Brouwer Trio (Valencia, Spain). This year will also feature the newly-created Valencia International Contemporary Ensemble (VICE), a star-studded ensemble lead by our artistic director, Carlos Amat.

More information about the program and application procedures is available at vipafestival.org/composition/ – we have an opening for a fellowship that will be awarded in the form of a €400 tuition reduction for a composer with expertise in audio engineering, electronics, live sound, or other skills applicable to assist with technical duties throughout the festival such as recording, editing, mixing recordings and operating Max/MSP patches. One participant will be selected for a commission to be premiered by the Ithaca College Contemporary Ensemble under the direction of Jorge Grossmann during the 2020-21 season in Ithaca, NY. When available, funds will be provided to offset the cost of travel for the selected composer to attend the premiere.

Please message Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann (jorgeg@vipafestival.org) for any questions about the Composition Institute, or info@vipafestival.org for any questions about the Festival itself.
