Uncommon Music Festival 2019 Composer Competition and call for scores

The Uncommon Music Festival is seeking new compositions to perform and record during its 2019 Festival in Sitka, Alaska. Pieces should be written for SATB vocal quartet (no divisi) with optional piano or guitar accompaniment, have a duration of 3-5 minutes, and set English text.

All pieces submitted to the call for scores, regardless of previous public performance, will be considered for selection for the Festival. Pieces that have not received public performance will be considered for our Composer Competition, the winner of which will receive a $200 cash prize and guaranteed publishing with Performer’s Edition.

The Uncommon Music Festival supports diversity in classical music. We welcome submissions from composers of any age and experience level, and we encourage submissions from those who are underrepresented in classical music.

Compositions must fit the following criteria:

-Scored for SATB vocal quartet (no divisi) with optional piano or guitar accompaniment
-3-5 minutes in length

-For consideration for the Composer Competition: the composition must not have received a live performance

All selected pieces will receive:

-A live performance at the 2019 Uncommon Music Festival
-A high-quality audio recording
-A $50 cash prize
-Consideration for publication by Performer’s Edition

The winner of the Composer Competition will receive:

-A high-quality audio recording
-A $200 cash prize
-Guaranteed publishing by Performer’s Edition
