PSWE Composer Initiative

Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

The Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble (PSWE) is excited to announce the inaugural PSWE Composer Initiative. This is a unique opportunity for up to 3 students–under the age of 35–to experience the art of composing for wind ensembles with the ultimate prize of having their work performed by PSWE in June 2019 and adopted into PSWE Repertoire. The selected composers will have works included in the final cycle for the PSWE season including a performance and live-recording.

Currently conducted by Music Director David Branter; PSWE boasts many of the area’s finest wind and percussion musicians: from professional musicians, dedicated music educators, and outstanding amateur players. PSWE has worked with composers, conductors and soloists to perform new and experimental works in addition to the classics of the wind ensemble repertoire. With an active support of student musicians; PSWE has the mandate to promote performing opportunities for music students of all ages. PSWE had the honourable invitation to be featured at the 2015 World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference (San Jose); marking the 10th anniversary of PSWE's performance at the 1995 WASBE Conference (Singapore).
