String Songs :: Call for String Quartets #2

String Songs began with a very simple idea which was a blog with the purpose of showcasing chamber string music by emerging composers of today. After some time we realised that we could do something more than curation and instead play a meaningful part in creating new music.
We are doing this by putting out a call for scores and recording the winning works. All composers will retain rights to their music and the recording, we only ask that we can post it on our blog.

We learned a lot from our first call and were stunned by the high quality of the almost 30 submissions we received from around the world. Now on our second call, we are extremely excited about what's to come as this project grows.

We are accepting works for string quartet or any subset thereof (trio, duo, solo) with or without electronics. The piece may have already been performed, recorded or awarded. There are no limits of duration. There is also no specific agenda regarding aesthetic; we are interested in it all from the thorniest serialism to minimal soundscapes and everything in between!
There is no age limit or restriction on nationality.

Multiple entries are accepted.

Please email us the following at stringsongs.blog@gmail.com

- A PDF of the score

- A MIDI Mockup (optional)

- Short Bio or CV

- Proof of fee payment

The entry fee is 20 EURO per submission. Payment is accepted via PayPal (send to stringsongs.blog@gmail.com)

Those who entered our first call for scores receive 25% discount on the submission fee (15 euro) and finalists have free entry.

Submissions are due on April 1, 2019 11:59PM GMT. We expect the turnover period to be quicker than before, the adjudication will be completed by the end of April and rehearsals will begin in early June with a recording date following as soon as possible.
