ICon Arts Academy Transilvania 2019 COMPOSER IN RESIDENCE with Diana Rotaru and DAYA CIPTA MARIMBA DUO, call for applications

The XVIIth edition of ICon Arts Transilvania Academy (Romania) has launched the call for project proposals for the composer in residence program, open for young artists from all over the world. During 26th-31st July 2019, up to three students will be invited to the splendid landscape of Transylvania to work with composer DIANA ROTARU and DAYA CIPTA MARIMBA DUO founded by Japanese performers KOYA NAKATANI and YUKIKO NAKATANI. This edition focuses on expression and the discovering of creative power of marimba - as the duo’s name means translated from Indonesian.
The works will be premièred on July 30th in Malancrav at the splendid Apafi Manor, during the ICon Arts Festival.
The call for applications is open to all composers under 40 years old. The application forms may only be submitted online, until April 25th, 2019, at the following e-mail address: office@iconarts.ro.
There is no entry fee for registering in the selection.
Following the selection, up to three composers will be chosen to be invited to ICon Arts and take part in the composition residency. The results will be announced on the ICon Arts website, starting from the 5th of May, 2019. Out of the three selected composers, one will receive a full scholarship and the other two will receive one half scholarship each.

After receiving the results, the two selected composers will pay the remaining participation fee of 300 Euro into the organizer’s account, no later than 10 days after the announcement (the fee covers accommodation, meals, composition workshop and performance-related costs for the period 26th – 31st of July).
In case of one’s payment delay, the place will be reassigned to a composer-in waiting. The scores of new works for the ICon Arts marimba duo will be delivered no later than the 5th of July, 2019.

The full scholarship winner will benefit from local transportation, accommodation, 3 meals/ day during 26th - 31st July.

• Scanned Passport (proof of composer’s citizenship).
• Short Bio (1 page max.).
• Recommendation letter (scan) from a well-known composer
• A PDF score of a previously written work and its recording in wav/ mp3 file, or soundcloud/ personal page link
• Short description of the proposed work for marimba duo (max. 10 lines)

The winners of the ICon Arts composer in residence program will authorize the organizer (UCIMR) to use the respective works free of charge for future recordings, performances or any other purpose, without any restrictions. They also agree to mark the score with the following: “Piece written for the ICon Arts Academy Composer in Residence Program – Transilvania, Romania, 2019”.
