Art Song Call for Scores for Climate Change Program

In May of our 2019-2020 season, Calliope’s Call presents “There is no plan(et) B.” This program celebrates the earth, raising awareness of the urgent need to save our planet. Featuring music from a variety of composers and poets including nature-lover Emily Dickinson, the program illustrates humanity’s essential and timeless connection to Mother Earth. Calliope's Call is looking for scores that speak to the current and immediate narrative of climate change, as there is a lack of art song texts that address this.

Composers whose work is selected will receive:
 At least 2 performances of the winning work(s) during the Calliope’s Call concerts in Boston, MA in Spring 2020
 An audio and/or video recording of one of the performances
 Advertising on our social media outlets, Calliope’s Call website, and in our newsletter

Guidelines
- The program for the spring concerts will present art songs that fit the theme There is no plan(et) B.
To inspire and empower audience members, we are especially interested in works that speak to the human aspect of the crisis as opposed to that of the natural world, as well as texts and stories that feature tangible, effective work being done to fight the effects of climate change. Examples of the former would be stories about agricultural and [therefore] migrant crises (local and abroad), texts from indigenous people, environmental journalists, activists, politicians, etc.

- Submitted works must be for any combination of the following: soprano, mezzo-soprano, and piano.
- Applicants are encouraged to submit works for more than one voice if possible (SA, SSA).
-Works that feature other instruments besides piano cannot be considered at this time.
- Works may be a cappella or with piano.
- Works must be no longer than 15’ in duration. Longer works may be submitted as long as there is a possibility to excerpt portions or movements of the piece.
- Please only submit original art songs; excerpts of operatic works will not be considered.
- Submissions from any composer, regardless of age or citizenship, are welcome.
