Call for Scores for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 Composition Competition in memory of John Cage

Composers from all over the world are called to submit their musical works to the Call for Scores for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 Composition Competition in memory of John Cage by Neue Musik Frankfurt. There is no age restriction.

Pieces can be scored for one or several (if multiple submission are made) of the following instrumentations:

Piano solo
electroacoustic
Piano and electronics
Clarinet in Bb solo
Clarinet in Bb and electronics
Piano and Clarinet in Bb
Piano, Clarinet in Bb and electronics

Pieces can be between ca. 1-10 minutes in duration.

There are no stylistic restrictions. Emphasis is on aesthetic and ethical good quality, good playability and good aesthetic and ethical contents and musical impact.

Scores can be handwritten, computer scored, graphic, image or text scores.

Electronic components should be submitted as stereo mp3 files only.

Scores submitted must be original works of the composer.

A jury from the Frankfurt Tone Artists Association will make a free selection of works to be awarded a prize in the Competition. Prizes comprise performance and recording of the winning compositions with high technology digital studio equipment to be used for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 to promote new international contemporary music in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, as part of the HNS Contemporary Music Series with contemporary music concerts, talks and events in Frankfurt am Main. Winning composers will be issued an official certificate from Neue Musik Frankfurt to be sent to the composer as printable high quality digital file stating them to be winners in the Call for Scores for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 Composition Competition in memory of John Cage that is signed and dated by Neue Musik Frankfurt mentioning the musical work for which the prize is awarded. Works that have not been awarded a prize can receive an honorable mention by Neue Musik Frankfurt on the Facebook page of Neue Musik Frankfurt. No money prize is awarded. There is no conditional obligation for the awarding of a prize or honorable mention for the jury of the Call for Scores for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 Composition Competition in memory of John Cage.

Submissions should be sent via eMail and include one score or several scores as pdf or jpeg file, short program note/s for the work/s submitted and a written statement that Neue Musik Frankfurt is unconditionally allowed by the composer to perform and record his/her piece/s for promotional purposes and commercial distribution by Neue Musik Frankfurt.

All submissions should be sent in complete form with "Call for Scores for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 Composition Competition in memory of John Cage" in the subject to: neuemusikfrankfurt@web.de

The submission fee for the Call for Scores for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 Composition Competition in memory of John Cage is 50 Euros for each musical work submitted respectively and can be paid via paypal invoice eMail sent to the composer via paypal after the submission materials have been received by Neue Musik Frankfurt for the composer to be able to pay the submission fee via paypal easily and quickly. If paypal cannot be used composers can also use regular bank money transfer or money transfer online with www.moneygram.com or Western Union. Please note: The jury reserves all rights to not award a prize or honorable mention when standards of good quality, good playability and performability, good aesthetic and ethical criterions at the free subjective decision and choice of the jury are not met adequately. The jury can but must not select a piece if at the free and subjective decision of the jury a piece does not qualify for a prize award or honorable mention in the Competition. Payment of the submission fee is a free and voluntary one-time-payment of the composer that is non-refundable, no claims of refund can be made as agreed by the composer in submitting his/her musical piece and paying the submission fee for the Composition Competition. Payment of she submission fee by the composer does not in any way impose nor imply any conditions and claims on the jury towards the selection process in the Composition Competition that is a free, unconditional and subjective aesthetic and ethical decision and choice by the jury. Neue Musik Frankfurt is not conditionally obliged to provide recorded performance material of the winning compositions to the composers as the recordings will be used especially for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 and for commercial distribution to promote contemporary music in Germany.

Winners of the Call for Scores for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 Composition Competition in memory of John Cage will be notified directly and personally via eMail. Please note: Composers not winning a prize in the Competition nor receiving an honorable mention will not be notified due to absence of automated reply systems and an expected relatively high rate of submissions.

Only complete submissions with confirmed payment of the submission fee qualify for consideration by the jury for selection in the Call for Scores for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 Composition Competition in memory of John Cage.

The submission deadline is September 30, 2020. Submissions received after this date cannot be considered anymore in the Call for Scores for the NMF New Music Promotion Tour 2020 Composition Competition in memory of John Cage.
