2020 UNK New Music Festival

19th Annual University of Nebraska at Kearney New Music Festival
March 13 – 14, 2020

The University of Nebraska at Kearney is excited to announce its 19th annual New Music Festival, being held March 13 – 14, 2020 on the UNK campus in Kearney, Nebraska. Deadline for receipt is Friday, October 25, 2019.

Call for Scores: All composers are invited to submit one score of no more than 12 minutes in duration. Works involving electronics (5.1), graphic notation, and open instrumentation are welcome.

There is no submission fee. If you would like to support the UNK New Music Series and Festival with a tax-deductible donation, you can do so here: https://nufoundation.org/-/unk-unk-new-music-festival-fund-01139600

Though we hope to meet all selected composers, there is no obligation to attend the festival.

There are three categories for submission:

Category 1: We are very excited to welcome ~Nois (noissaxophone.com) as our guest artists. ~Nois is a Chicago-based saxophone quartet that defies categorization by working between the boundary of contemporary classical music and experimental improvisation. Founded in 2016 by graduate students at Northwestern University, ~Nois (pronounced "noise") has quickly emerged as one of the premier young ensembles dedicated to innovative and engaging performances.

~Nois will give their performance on Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 pm. Composers may submit scores for saxophone quartet (SATB only) under this category.

Category 2: UNK Faculty and Student Performers. Solo and chamber scores for subsets of the following instruments and voices:

UNK Faculty: Clarinet/Bass Clarinet (one performer), Trumpet, Euphonium, Piano, Percussion (up to two performers, see the FAQ for instrument availabilities), Double Bass, Mezzo-Soprano voice, Baritone voice.

UNK Students (all undergraduates): Flute, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet (one performer), Saxophone (S/A/T/B, one performer), Brass Quintet (or subsets of a Brass Quintet), Piano, Percussion, Mezzo-Soprano voice.

Category 3: Solo and Chamber works where the composer provides the performer(s) or is the performer. This category also includes pieces for fixed media (up to 5.1).

Submission Guidelines: In an email to UNKnewmusic@gmail.com, provide the following:

1. A link to a cloud-sharing service (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) that contains:
a. One (1) PDF score of your piece.
