NANOWorks Opera Call for Scores

NANOWorks Opera 2020 Call for Scores

North American New Opera Workshop (NANOWorks Opera) is now accepting applications for the 2020 Festival! We are calling emerging composers to submit 20–30 minute chamber operas with 1–6 singers and 1–6 instrumentalists. Selected composers will be invited to participate in our 2020 Festival where their operas will be workshopped, performed and recorded!

Eligibility: Our blind panel will choose works by emerging composers originally from and/or currently based in North America at an early stage in their career with no prior major commissions (over $10,000) or major recordings (commercially released with a third party label). There is no age limit. Prior to the festival the selected composer-participants will have the opportunity to work with our composer mentor (Jennifer Jolley), conductor (Chaowen Ting), and stage director (Stephanie Havey) to help further revise and shape the opera.

One selected work will be premiered during our 2020 Festival. The second selection will be given a workshop reading during our 2020 Festival and a premiere performance during our 2021 Festival.

Submissions will be anonymously reviewed. NANOWorks especially encourages composers from historically underrepresented groups to submit their work.

Submission:

Submissions must be anonymous. Score and recording must show the title of the work only. Should any part of the composer’s name be legible on the score, recording or linked URLs, the entry will be disqualified. You may submit more than one opera, but each work requires a separate application.
