Exchange for Midwestern Collegiate Composers (EMCC)

The Exchange for Midwestern Collegiate Composers (EMCC) will be held in Kansas City, MO March 13-14, 2020. Any composer enrolled in a college or university in the broad midwestern U.S. region may submit works and/or presentations. Selected works will be performed at one of three concerts in downtown Kansas City over the weekend. The final concert will feature our ensemble in residence, Project c4, a cutting edge new music ensemble based in Kansas City that promotes fresh ideas through free improvisation and newly commissioned music with an original and flexible instrumentation which includes flute, saxophone, percussion, piano, electric guitar, and laptop.

Composers have the opportunity to submit pieces to three different calls for EMCC: (1) a work for Project c4 or any subset of their instrumentation: flute (possible doublings: piccolo, alto flute, Irish whistle), saxophone (soprano, alto, or tenor), percussion (marimba 5 octave, vibraphone 3 octave, 2 toms, snare, suspended cymbal, woodblock, and medium tam tam), piano, electric guitar, and laptop (live electronics parts will be prioritized over fixed media), (2) a work for any instrumentation (note: performers must be provided by the composer) (3) a 15-20 minute presentation of any topic related to new music.

There is no application fee for these calls.
