Composition @ the Sewanee Summer Music Festival 2020

The submission for scholarship and fellowship priority for the Composition Program at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival is March 15th.

In a nutshell, this year we will offer an immersive set of four relentless weeks for composers who will write and premiere new works for chamber ensembles and orchestra. Last summer composition students premiered 15 works including 3 new orchestral pieces. They also had 40 hours of individual sessions, seminars, free improv sessions and more!

Tuition information

Tuition: $5,125.00
Festival alumni who apply by March 15th will receive a $500 credit to their tuition.
Application fees for 2020 season

$35.00 if submitted by December 1st
$75.00 if submitted any time after December 1st - March 15th.
$85.00 After March 15th
For priority scholarship consideration, applications should be submitted by March 15th, 2020
Final scholarship application deadline for the 2020 Sewanee Summer Music Festival is March 15th. Applications submitted after March 15th will be reviewed on a case by case basis, with limited scholarship consideration. Many studios fill quickly.
Refer to the audition requirements for your instrument before submitting your audition materials.

Composition fellows will be selected based on the quality of their submitted materials and resume, which should carefully outline any classroom or individual teaching experience in composition or music theory.

Composition applicants should submit scores of PDF ’s two contrasting works written for solo, chamber or large ensemble (orchestra, chamber orchestra or wind band). Recordings or midi realizations are not required but encouraged. In addition, two letters of recommendation are required.
