Young Women Composers Camp

Applications for the 2020 Young Women Composers Camp are now open! The Young Women Composers Camp (YWCC) is a two-week summer composition camp for students aged 14–19 who identify as female or non-binary. Our mission is to amplify the voices of young women, to allow them access to a high level of music education, and to work towards closing the gender gap in the music composition sector.

Our 2020 guest artists include Gabriela Lena Frank, Angélica Negrón, and the vocal sextet Variant Six. Students will participate in college-level coursework with our faculty, receive private composition lessons, sing in the YWCC Choir, visit the Sō Percussion Summer Institute and meet with their guest composer Sarah Kirkland Snider, and compose a new piece for SATB that will receive its world premiere by Variant Six at our final concert. This is a truly unique program, and there is no cost to apply!
