Luigi Nono Composition Competition 2020, 7th Edition

The Call for Scores is open to composers of any nationality up to 40 years old (not completed in the current year). Applicants must send 2 compositions, either for solo instrument or chamber group (max 15 elements); electronic instrumentation is not allowed. Compositions can be either both for one instrument, or both for ensemble, or mixed. The submission of pieces presenting various instrumentation is suggested. The MP3 recording of just one of the pieces is also required.
Compositions can be written in any style and aesthetic.

Max time: 15 (fifteen) minutes each.
Pieces can have already been performed. Pieces can have already been awarded a prize.

Members of the jury will be Andrea Portera (Ita) – president of the jury - Alissa Firsova (Eng/Rus) and Anna Pidgorna (Ukr/Can). They will choose a single winner, who will receive a prize of € 1000,00.

In addition to that, the winner will be asked to compose a piece expressly for the winner of the XX CENTURY PRIZE (either soloist or group), awarded to the best execution of a piece composed after 1950, in the 24th edition of International Chamber Music Competition LUIGI NONO, which will take place in Settimo (Turin) from October 23rd through October 25th, 2020.

The commissioned piece will be performed by the soloist or the chamber group, winner/s of the XX CENTURY PRIZE, in a concert within the 2021 concert season organized by APS "Amici per la Musica" (the concert is part of the prize for the winner/s). The composer will be invited to attend the concert. In that occasion he/she will be given the prize (cheque).

The name of the winner will be posted on the website of the Competition within the beginning of LUIGI NONO Competition (October 23rd, 2020). The results will be also announced during the awarding ceremony of LUIGI NONO Competition: Sunday, October 25th 2020. The winner will be informed by e-mail, as well.
The submitted scores will be considered property of APS "Amici per la Musica" and will not be returned.


Deadline for incoming applications: June 30th, 2020 at midnight (UTC/GMT+1).

1. The 2 (two) scores enclosed to the message in PDF format files
2. 1 (one) mp3 file of JUST ONE SCORE
3. Filled up and signed application form

Scores must be fully anonymous and without any possible identification sign. If not, the score will be rejected.
