The Wallace Collection: Call for proposals for new work for brass septet

The Wallace Collection, the ensemble in residence of University of St Andrews Laidlaw Music Centre, are looking for a new work for brass septet (3tpt, flugelhorn, hn,tbn,tba) for performance in their 2020/21 season and beyond. The work will be premiered in November in Gairloch, the Aros Centre in Skye, and on the Isle of Eigg, and given subsequent performances in Dumfries, Kirkcaldy, St Andrews and Thurso. The new work will also be recorded and released on The Wallace Collection record label for release in 2021.
Composers of any age and nationality are invited to submit proposals of 200 words which outline their plans for a (10-15minute) piece which is connected to one of the below themes:

• The natural history or landscape of Scotland's Highlands and Islands
• Connections between the people and sea of Scotland's Highlands and Islands
• Scottish folklore and cultural heritage

Applications close on 1 July. The composer asked to write the piece will be notified by 15 July. The date for the delivery of score and parts will be mutually agreed.

Composers are asked to submit a CV and an existing composition, as well as comment as to how having their music performed and recorded by The Wallace Collection could be advantageous to their career development.

No commission fee will be paid, though travel expenses for composers to attend rehearsals/performance or the recording session will be paid within the U.K.
