NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020

Neue Musik Frankfurt is hosting the NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020, Pre Concert Talk and Concert in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. For this event international Composers all over the world of any age are called to submit their original scores for the NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020.

Works can be composed for Soprano or Alto Recorder solo, with or without electronics.

The compositions can but do not have to use electronics as well provided as mp3 or wav file.

Compositions can be between ca. 1-10 minutes in duration. Composers are allowed to submit more than one work for consideration for selection by the jury. Pieces that have been performed, recorded, published or awarded a prize already are also eligible for submission into the Competition. Pieces can be but do not have to be new works to be entered in the Competition.
International composers of any age can submit their works. Compositions should be original works by the composer. Any personal styles and musical idioms are welcome. The jury will consider aesthetic quality, originality, good playability and ethical and artistic quality, impact and relevance of the works.

Scores can be handwritten, computer notation scores, graphic scores, text scores, photographic or image scores.

After the submission deadline the jury will selectively decide on works to be awarded a prize in the International NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020. Awarded works will be mentioned and talked about in the pre-concert talk of the NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020, performed in concert in January 2021 in Frankfurt am Main and winning composers officially announced at the pre-concert talk of the concert. The prizes comprise concert performance of the piece/s and an official document issued and dated by Neue Musik Frankfurt stating the winning composer, his/her successful participation winning a prize in the NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020 and composition for which the prize was awarded sent to the winning composers via eMail as file document for high quality print after the submission deadline when the selection process by the jury is completed. There is no money prize awarded. Information on the NMF concert in Frankfurt am Main are given on the Facebook Site of Neue Musik Frankfurt.

Winners of the Competition will be notified directly via eMail and together with their winning work/s officially announced at the concert in Frankfurt am Main in January 2021. Please note: Only winning composers will be directly notified via eMail, since due to experienced relatively high rates of submissions and absence of automatic reply systems participants who have not won a prize in the Competition will not be notified personally via eMail.

Scores should be sent as pdf or jpeg files via eMail along with a short Curriculum Vitae, short program note and a short signed statement of the composer that the work/s is/are the original work/s of the composer submitting it and that the composer allows Neue Musik Frankfurt unconditional performance, recording and media advertising of his/her submitted piece/s.
If electronic components are submitted files should only be mp3 or wav stereo files. Scores and/or audio files should be sent along with the submission documents required with "NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020" in the subject to:

The submission fee for the NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020 is 35 Euros and can be paid by paypal invoice sent by eMail to the participating composer via paypal to be able to pay the submission fee for the work to be fully eligible for consideration for selection by the jury in the Competition easily and quickly. If paypal cannot be used composers can also transfer the submission fee via regular bank transfer. Composers should for this purpose write an eMail to: neuemusikfrankfurt@web.de requesting the bank details for the transfer of the submission fee. Please note: Payment of the submission fee for this Competition is a free and voluntary one time payment that is nonrefundable and does not imply any conditional claims on the side of the composer for selection by the jury or of any refund. If more than one work is submitted the submission fee applies to each composition respectively. Only complete submissions with the required documents and files in due time are eligible for consideration by the jury in the NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020. Submission documents should be sent first via eMail and only when the complete submission is received and confirmed by Neue Musik Frankfurt payment of the submission fee should be made because the submission fee once paid is unconditional and nonrefundable, claims of refund will not be accepted since the payment of the submission fee is a free and voluntary unconditional payment for the Competition.

The deadline for submissions of scores, documents and payment of submission fee is December 31, 2020. Submissions received after this date cannot be considered anymore.

Please note: The decision of the jury of Neue Musik Frankfurt in the NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020 with regards to selection of compositions submitted or non-selection is unconditional, free and subjective. The jury reserves the full rights agreed on by the composer to not award a prize when subjective criteria of good quality, aesthetic contents, playability, ethical and artistic relevance and quality or any other important criterion that the jury freely decides on subjectively are not met adequately according to the selective free decision of the jury regarding compositions and program notes. Participation in the NMF International Contemporary Recorder Composition Competition 2020 and payment of the submission fee do not imply any conditional claims on the side of the composer towards the free and subjective selection process of the jury.
