Leading Tones Music Publishing: Call for Flex-Score Works

Leading Tones Music is pleased to announce our first call for scores! In response to the unique programming challenges music educators will likely face in 2020-2021 due to COVID-19, we are searching for innovative works with flexible instrumentation and skill level to feature in a new collection aimed at helping educators navigate the challenges of online and hybrid learning environments.

Selected works will be published in our online catalogue and marketed to band and orchestra directors worldwide. Composers will receive 60% royalties on sales of their work. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis but works submitted prior to July 31, 2020 will be prioritized for immediate publication.

1.) Works must be written at a beginner to intermediate grade level with no more than five parts. Works incorporating fixed-media electronics will be accepted.

2.) Works must not exceed a duration of five minutes and must incorporate flexible instrumentation to be considered for publication (i.e. SATB-style, labeled Part 1-Part 4).

3.) Composers should provide performance notes giving suggested instruments from any standard instrument family for each part. All compositional styles will be considered and works featuring some aspect of improvisation are particularly welcome.

4.) All scores should be in C. Parts written in various clefs and transpositions will be requested at the time a piece is selected for publication.

5.) Works incorporating mixed-level writing are highly encouraged but not required.

How to Apply:

Applications should be sent to admin@leadingtonesmusic.com with the subject heading "Call for Flex Score Works," and should include the following:

1.) A PDF of the score (in C) and a recording if available (MIDI is acceptable). There is no limit to the number of works featuring the outlined parameters that a composer may submit.

2.) A short composer bio and (optional) website URL. There is no age restriction and no application fee.

Selected composers will be asked to provide a Finale or Sibelius file of their piece to assist with the publication process.
