Call for Scores 2020 | EstOvest Festival

Associazione EstOvest Festival - Torino is happy to announce Call for Scores of the 19th EstOvest Festival (3rd October - 5th December), open to candidates born after January 1st 1985 from all over the world.

THE PROJECT

This year’s EstOvest Festival 2020 Call for Scores focuses on a composition for two cellos and string orchestra. The work, inspired by Vivaldi's dialogue between solo and tutti, should contain some processing of the sound element suited to the expressive possibilities that our time offers, especially in relation to technology.
The composition, whose duration must not exceed 10 minutes, should include individual parts for the following intruments: 2 solo cellos, 6 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 double bass and harpsichord.
This instrumental layout, apparently unbalanced, is designed to enhance the voice of each violin through
the use of a specific individual part thereby offering the composer more material on which to work. It is also important for the candidate to use his knowledge of the Baroque compositional techniques when reinventing, distorting and experimenting new ways of expression.
In other words, it is not a question of writing an imitation of a specific style from the past, but of conceiving a new musical content for an already well-known style.
The winning piece will be performed in concert during the EstOvest Festival 2020 (3 October - 5
December 2020) by cellists Claudio Pasceri and Clara Vedeche together with the Orchestra da Camera Accademia.
