Odin Quartet presents: Lockdown Lullabies – CALL FOR SCORES

At a time when most musicians have been requested to stay home during the current health crisis, arts and creativity can unfortunately feel hindered in Canada and around the world with thousands of performances being cancelled and plans being put on hold, indefinitely. The Odin Quartet would like to call upon composers in these dark times, to write a new piece for string quartet and submit it for a performance entitled Lockdown Lullabies. The concert will be made up exclusively of works that are created during these odd times and will be performed in Toronto on December 18th, 2020 (date subject to review depending on the status of the crisis at that time).

Applications are open to everyone of any nationality, regardless of age, sex, color, creed, sexual orientation or disability and will be open for submissions until July 1st, 2020. Applications will simply serve as a notice of intent and the deadline to submit the finished work will be November 15th, 2020.

Works should generally be 5-10 minutes in duration, but composers can propose longer or shorter composition concepts in their application, subject to approval. Works should principally be scored for 2 violins, 1 viola and 1 cello, but certain doublings would be available (a list of available doubling instruments associated with each player can be provided upon request). The Odin Quartet reserves the right to select which works will be performed for the December 18th presentation, but will do their best to work with all composers to workshop their pieces. In the event that submissions exceed the capacity for one single concert, the Odin Quartet will consider placing works on other programmes during the 2020/2021 season or putting on another new music concert later in 2021.
