Oklahoma Composer's Orchestra Call for Scores
Music Director Jamie Wind Whitmarsh
The Oklahoma Composer's Orchestra is excited to announce the first call for scores. One or more composer may have his or her work selected to be performed by the Oklahoma Composer's Orchestra during the 2015-2016 season. Works submitted will also be considered for programming for future seasons.
PRIZE: Selected composers will receive a public performance by Oklahoma Composer's Orchestra, as well as a copy of any resulting recordings. In the instance that the concert is reviewed, composers will be notified and sent a copy.
ELIGIBILITY: All composers are invited to submit. Composers who are considered 'emerging' are sometimes given preference. Given that performing resources are from Oklahoma, composers with ties to Oklahoma may be given programming preference.
Regardless, all composers should feel welcome to apply – good music is good music.
INSTRUMENTATION: Works should be written for full orchestra, chamber orchestra, or string orchestra. Alternate instrumentation is welcome, as are concerti. Works including stereo playback, electronics or vocalists are also acceptable.
DEADLINE: Programming for the 2015-2016 season begins immediately – submit your score ASAP!
APPLICATION PROCESS: Please send the following items to firstname.lastname@example.org
- 1 PDF Score – Composer name included
- 1 mp3 mockup/recording
- 1 completed application file
Selected composers will be notified as soon as results are known. The Oklahoma Composer's Orchestra reserves the right to program each concert as effectively as possible, and so may choose to program music by several, one, or none of the participants. Selected composers will be required to submit performing materials in a timely fashion (usually by email). Composers are heartily encouraged to be involved throughout the rehearsal process, though no travel funding is currently available.
The Oklahoma Composer's Orchestra is an exciting and new group dedicated to championing music written by living composers. The OCO celebrates music written by all composers, especially music by emerging composers. The mission of the Oklahoma Composer's Orchestra is to provide a high-quality live musical experience that is accessible to performers and audience members alike.
