Composer and Pianist Peter Dayton is offering private lessons/tutoring in music composition and theory to individuals in the Baltimore area. With prior teaching experience ranging from private tutoring to university class instruction, Dayton is able to work with musically interested individuals of any level of musical literacy or experience. He holds a Master's Degree from The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor's Degree from Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music.
Described by the Baltimore Sun as having “a refined sense of melodic arcs and harmonic motion,” his compositions have been performed across North America and in Europe. Dayton’s orchestral and choral works have been recorded by the Brno Philharmonic and First Readings Choir for the Ablaze label. He holds honors such as the Macht Orchestral Composition Competition, the Gustav Klemm Prize, semi-finalist in the American Prize in Composition, and 1st Prize in the Gold Key Piano Composition Competition. His recent projects such as a chamber opera on the love affair of Gertrude Stein, and a piece inspired by Grand Teton National Park represent the diversity of his artistic interests.
