The Chicago Ensemble announces “Discover America IX” call for scores

The Chicago Ensemble announces “Discover America IX” call for scores. Composers are invited to submit scores written in recent years. Selected works are likely to be programmed in the 2017-18 and 2018-2019 seasons. There is no monetary award.

The Chicago Ensemble is a professional chamber group completing its 40th season. We present a varied repertoire (baroque to contemporary) for voice, strings, woodwinds and piano. The ensemble performs a subscription series of five programs, fall through spring. Each program is performed at two Chicago locations.

The first “Discover America” call for scores took place in 1992. Pieces selected in “Discover America” I through VIII were presented in special new music concerts, as part of the regular subscription series and on live radio broadcasts. Several works were reprogrammed in subsequent seasons. Winning works are listed on our website:

Composers may submit only one piece -- electronically or by regular mail. Materials sent by regular mail can only be returned if a self-addressed stamped envelope is provided. A recording is helpful, even if a simulation. Parts need not be sent at this time. Please enclose bio and list of works.

The piece submitted must include piano and be scored for a total of two, three or four performers. Besides piano, scoring may include one each of violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet and voice (any voice range).

There is no age restriction. Composers do not need to be American or reside in America.

Deadline: June 21, 2017
