2018 ACDA Summer Choral Composers Forum at Lehigh University (June 17 - 24)

This summer, the American Choral Directors Association and Lehigh University invite composers to spend a week immersed in the full process of creating a new choral work, from initial inspiration to premiere performance, with mentor-composers Aaron Jay Kernis and Steven Sametz, and The Princeton Singers as artists-in-residence!

Composers start off with only ideas, and over the course of the week, these ideas are developed, discussed, and tried out in rehearsals with the professional choral ensemble, The Princeton Singers. This forum provides opportunities throughout the week to try out your music with the Princeton Singers, get feedback, rework it, and hear it again the very next day!

Each day, participants will work with internationally acclaimed composer Aaron Jay Kernis and ACDA Composition Advisory Committee Chair Steven Sametz in compositional seminars and individual sessions to develop their piece. Past mentor-composers have included Sven-David Sandström, Tania León, Steven Stucky, Chen Yi, Z. Randall Stroope, Stephen Paulus, Zjou Long, Bob Chilcott, Libby Larsen, and Alberto Grau.

As someone who has participated in the forum for several year now, I can personally attest to the strength of the program. It is a very rare luxury to be able to set aside distractions and devote a week entirely to the creation of a new work. This is an experience I would strongly recommend! I will be participating in the forum again this year, as well as assisting in the organization of the week, so if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at casey.rule@gmail.com

Hope to see you this summer!
