Tango for Musicians at Reed College

June 17-24, 2018 | Portland, Oregon

Tango for Musicians is North America's leading tango workshop, providing the tools needed to play, arrange, compose, improvise, and teach tango music. Now in our sixth year, the workshop attracts participants throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and beyond who are eager to learn, explore, and experiment with tango music in deep and meaningful ways.

Emphasizing technique and creativity, history and the present, the prestigious artistic faculty of Tango for Musicians at Reed College come to us directly from Buenos Aires and are dedicated to opening the mysteries of tango music for players of any instrument in a welcoming, supportive, and professional environment.

Tango For Musicians at Reed College takes place June 17-24, 2018 in Portland, Oregon and features a rigorous curriculum designed to maximize student learning within and across our many featured activities.

The week features dedicated tracks for composers and arrangers aimed at advanced composers or arrangers who want to experiment within the tango genre and the Argentine musical tradition. No previous compositional experience with tango is necessary.

The curriculum will feature a special lesson plan which will include rehearsals for the entire week with the Redwood Tango Ensemble performing the composers’ pieces, one-on-one lessons with the composition faculty, and masterclasses covering the fundamental tools on the writing and appreciation of tango music. The week-long curriculum will culminate in a concert program featuring original compositions by the participating composers.

Those who attend the Composers Track will have access to the full program of activities and concerts that are part of the larger Tango for Musicians at Reed College event.
